Raised in the System: Screening & Discussion

Join for a screening of Vice’s “Raised in the System.” Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire, The Night Of) examines the juvenile justice system and investigates solutions communities are employing that are resulting in drastic drops in crime and incarceration. Screening starts at 6:30pm, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Michelle Mbekeani (Community Justice Attorney at Shriver Center on Poverty Law).

With over 850,000 juvenile arrests every year and 48,000 kids sitting in lock-up daily, the U.S. has the highest incarceration rate of minors on Earth. There are solutions and we need to be a part of making change.

Race Conscious Readers

During this special storytime workshop, we will be exploring strategies for engaging your kids in conversations about race through storytime to raise their consciousness and to start family conversations about equity. In this workshop, we will share resources on selecting books, preparing questions and responses, and rethinking some children's classics. We will also model a storytime using the strategies we demonstrate. Best for kids 3-5 and caregivers.
